Tubatulabals of Kern Valley

Grant Planning, Joshua Tree Training, and Community Nourishment with the Tubatulabals of Kern Valley.

August 18, 2024

In this meeting, both those who joined us in person and online learned about new opportunities, including available work, funding details, and timelines. We covered the goals for each grant, where the funds are coming from, and the partner agencies that will be involved. We also discussed how these grants will benefit our tribe and support our traditions, our land, and our neighboring communities.

Some of the projects will focus on connecting our youth and elders, helping to keep our culture strong and vibrant. Another important project is the restoration of natural habitats and the preservation of our cultural and natural resources. These efforts are designed to strengthen our cultural ties and ensure that our traditions continue to thrive across generations. This meeting took place in Kwolokam, giving us the chance to utilize the ranch facility and marking our return to a place where our ancestors once gathered.

The event also provided a chance to hand out food boxes to our community members and share a breakfast together, reinforcing our bonds and mutual support. Looking ahead, the Tubatulabal of Kern Valley Council invites our community to increase participation and engagement in these efforts, fostering a stronger and more connected future. Special thanks go to Chairman Robert Gomez for his dedication and leadership in making all of this possible.
